What is Mindfulness

Dog MindfulnessMindfulness is about being aware in the present moment without any judgement, simply being aware

MindfulnessI studied Mindfulness with John Julian in Melbourne, Victoria which deepened my understanding of everyday mindfulness. I have been Meditating daily for 21 years and as my teacher said to me “You will reach the stage when life itself is a living meditation”. Indeed it is. I am constantly aware of the stillness within. I live with expanded awareness. Life is a living meditation.

Mindfulness is simply awareness. Be aware of your thoughts, be aware of your feelings, be aware of any physical sensations, be aware of the sounds and smell around you. Make no judgement on any of those observations. Simply be aware. Now you can make decisions from a clearer place not clouded by distracting thoughts.

Some of my favorite words to have you reflect on your attitude to life:

“Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.”

“The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it. (21)”Thich nhat hanh

“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.”
Thích Nhất Hạnh, Stepping into Freedom: Rules of Monastic Practice for Novices

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”

Mindfulness is the energy that helps us recognize the conditions of happiness that are already present in our lives. You don’t have to wait ten years to experience this happiness. It is present in every moment of your daily life. There are those of us who are alive but don’t know it. But when you breathe in, and you are aware of your in-breath, you touch the miracle of being alive. That is why mindfulness is a source of happiness and joy.
